19th Greenery Award
As a part of the "Construction of a Symbolic Space on Toyonaka Campus," one of the main projects in the Osaka University Campus Master Plan, a slope for cyclists and persons in wheelchairs was constructed at the East Gate on the Toyonaka Campus in order to improve the accessibility of the campus to students and the local community. This slope was a much-needed addition to the staircase which had been at the East Gate from the start.
Additionally, the Campus Design Laboratory and Department of Facilities took the initiative to discuss the design of the slope with faculty, staff, students, members of local community, local governments, and the police. The end result was a slope that was not only useful, but also beautiful with landscaping and greenery. A portion of the planting costs for trees and shrubs was covered by subsidies.
The 19th Greenery Award was awarded for the sensitivity and consideration shown for the surrounding areas and to the community in this beautification project.
