IMPORTANT--A(H1N1) influenza announcement #18 (superseding Announcements #1~#17)

2009-7-23(Thu) Inside

Please note the following:

  • This announcement #18 takes precedence over all past A(H1N1) influenza announcements (#1~#17).

  • Henceforth, please act according to the information contained in this announcement #18.

As you may be aware, A(H1N1) influenza is continuing to spread in Osaka and there are even a number of persons at Osaka University who have contracted this illness. Generally speaking, these persons have exhibited mild symptoms and have recovered within a week.

The Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare and Osaka Prefecture do not consider the virulence of the A(H1N1) virus to be any greater than that of a normal seasonal flu. In other words, there appears to be little reason for worry or strict countermeasures regarding this new influenza at this time.

Nonetheless, we request that all students and staff members continue to observe the following steps to lessen the spread of this virus:

  1. Continue to do your best to prevent the spread of pathogens by: observing proper etiquette when you cough, washing your hands regularly, gargling occasionally, and so forth.
  2. Take good care of your health; however, if you should begin to suffer from flu-like symptoms such as a fever or a cough, please consult with a medical authority promptly.
  3. If it is confirmed that you have contracted an A-type influenza (the current new type or a different one), please inform the Department of Safety and Hygiene at once. (Tel: 06-6879-4023, after-office-hours phone number: 06-6879-7018)
