Osaka University Association for Integrated Studies of Language and Society (AISLS) Memorial Academic Lecture - Professor TATSUMI Takayuki (Faculty of Letters, Keio University)

We hope everyone is doing well during this early summer season. The Association for Integrated Studies of Language and Society at Osaka University will be holding its spring convention together with the Association for Integrated Studies of Language and Culture on June 23, 2016, at the Osaka University's Minoh Campus. We have invited Professor TATSUMI Takayuki (Faculty of Letters, Keio University) to hold a memorial academic lecture, after which members of the Association for Integrated Studies of Language and Society as well as the Association for Integrated Studies of Language and Culture will hold presentations on their research. We look forward to seeing many of you at the convention, in the hopes that it will further the research on language and culture here at Osaka University.

Lecture Title:

The Mission of a Scholar-Critic: The Case of Paul de Man

About the Lecturer:

Born in 1955, Professor Tatsumi obtained his doctorate degree from Cornell University in 1987 (Ph.D.). He serves as a director of the English Literary Society of Japan and the Japanese Association for American Studies. He has also served as the President of the American Literature Society of Japan since 2014. He has authored, edited, and translated a large number of works on American literature include: Cyberpunk America (Keiso Shobo), New Americanism (Seidosha), American Sodom (Kenkyusha), Lincoln's Bullet: A Literary and Cultural Biography (Seidosha), The Planet of Modernism (Iwanami Shoten, Publishers), The Metaphor Murders: Lectures on Contemporary Literary Criticism (Shohakusha), and The Barren Land of Figures: Paul de Man and America (Sairyusha).

*We encourage members of the general public to attend. There is no need to apply beforehand, and admission is free.
