Cosmic College 2015 in Kansai -- Embark on a Great Adventure to Another Earthly Body!

Discovery Channel, one of the largest documentary channels in the world, and the Japan Aerospace eXploration Agency (JAXA) are jointly holding a cosmic science event for parents and children. At Osaka University, the venue in the Kansai region, Professor Kentaro TERADA, of the Department of Earth and Space Science, Graduate School of Science will deliver a special lecture, and participants will see lunar meteorites.

Dates and Times:

  • Saturday, August 29 -- 14:00-16:00
  • Sunday, August 30 -- 10:30-12:30, 14:00-16:00

Venue: Room #5, 3F, Law and Economics Lecture Bldg., Toyonaka Campus, Osaka University

Intended for: 3rd ~ 6th grade elementary school students and their parents/guardians

Seating space in the venue: 150 for each session

The content of each session is the same.

There is no charge for attending this event.

Program  (Times in bracket are for the schedule of the morning of Sunday, August 30.)

  • 13:30 (10:00) -- Doors open.
  • 14:00 (10:30) -- Opening ceremony
  • 14:10 (10:40) -- Stage 1. Let's go to another earthly body!
  • 14:30 (11:00) -- Stage 2. What are differences between outer space and the earth?
  • 14:50 (11:20) -- Stage 3. Let's travel by celestial gravity!
  • 15:05 (11:35) -- Stage 4. Let's learn about how the universe works!
  • 15:25 (11:55) -- Stage 5. Where is extraterrestrial life? What are cutting-edge telescopes?
  • 15:45 (12:15) -- Stage 6. What is necessary to become a spacemen or cosmologist?
  • Special lecture by Kentaro TERADA, Professor, Department of Earth and Space Science, Graduate School of Science
