Kaitokudo for the 21st Century i-spot LECTURE -- Lecture by MATSUNAGA Kazuhiro "Massan, TAKETSURU Masataka Story -- Osaka and the birth of Japanese whisky"

Working together, Osaka University and Osaka City endeavor to provide citizens with small lectures in an "at home" atmosphere. Making use of its scholarship in various fields, Osaka University promotes the sharing of its learning with citizens, thereby contributing to the revitalization of local communities.
The themes for these 2 i-spot lecture series are "Artifacts, past and present" and "Various aspects of society." There is no charge for attending, so please feel free to come!

The lecture on Monday, September 22 is "Massan, TAKETSURU Masataka Story -- Osaka and the birth of Japanese whisky" will be held as one of the classes of "Artifacts, past and present."

Overview of content:
Japan is now one of the top five whisky brewers. Its first drop of unblended malt whisky was produced in Shimamoto-cho, Yamazaki, Osaka Prefecture in 1924. This lecture will introduce basic knowledge about whisky and the footsteps of TAKETSURU Masataka (nicknamed Massan), the distiller who achieved the domestic production of whisky and founded Nikka Whisky, and people associated with him such as his wife Rita and TORII Shinjiro, the founder of Suntory. If you participate in this lecture, it will be enjoyable to watch the NHK drama Massan featuring Masataka and Rita which starts this autumn.
