Osaka University & Osaka Gas: Academic Cooking, Vol.49 -- Welcome to the Protein Wonderland

2014-8-22 (Fri) 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

When you hear the word "protein," do you think of a nutrient found in meat and eggs? Proteins are not just nutrients. They are deeply involved in the functioning of our bodies and are found in things such as our blood, saliva, antibodies, and enzymes. In fact, our bodies are primarily made of protein and water. In the case of plants, proteins play a key role in photosynthesis and leaf pigmentation.

The objectives of this class are to learn about some of the functions and types of the strange and miraculous building-blocks we call proteins and then to enjoy eating some delicious protein.

KURISU Genji, Professor, Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University, will present this lecture.
