Viewing of and forum on the movie "Le droit à la philosophie, Le traces du Collège international de Philosophie"

In this seminar, following the showing of the movie Le droit à la philosophie, Le traces du Collège international de Philosophie, there will be a discussion on Director Nishiyama's theme "Philosophy and Democracy."

The movie Le droit à la philosophie, Le traces du Collège international de Philosophie is the first documentary film about Collège internationale de Philosophie (CIPH), an education and research institute founded by Jacques Derrida and Francois Chatelet in Paris in 1983 with joint support from the public and private sectors.

This film poses the question as to how the potential of liberal arts such as philosophy, literature, and art should be envisaged and put into practice in global capitalism, a system in which profitability and efficiency are pursued, citing examples of the uniqueness of this institution.

The current and future situation of universities, the humanities, and philosophy are envisaged through interviews by director NISHIYAMA Yuji with 7 people, including past university presidents.
