Cafe No. 38 "Let's Play a Modern French Literature Word Game!"

2009-12-19 (Sat) 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Come to the Museum on Saturday Afternoon!
How about enjoying the "Science Cafe" at the Museum of Osaka University on Saturday afternoon? This is the second year that these popular "Science Cafe" events have been held at the Museum of Osaka University. The first year these events were held was last year and they ended on a high note with great attendance. The Science Cafe events are a platform for students to discuss science topics with researchers directly. In this way, the Science Cafe hopes to narrow the gap between specialists and the public.

Cafe No. 38 -- Let's play a Modern French Literature Word Game!"

Coordinator: FUKAGAWA Akiko, Graduate School of Letters

Intended for: Anybody can attend this seminar. This is a child-friendly seminar.

*Please bring a Japanese dictionary to the venue. (The dictionary should be a book; no electronic or digital dictionaries please!)

Program

We empirically know that by setting rules, for example, by imposing some restrictions on words used in our daily conversation, we can play with words, for example, last and first, anagram, counting rhyme, haiku poem...

Authors in Oulipo (Ouvroir de littérature potentielle -- roughly translated: "workshop of potential literature") founded in France in 1960 have been intentionally creating their literature in accordance with some rules. This seminar will introduce their various techniques. Let's play with words modeled on their techniques.
