Let's Look at the Real Switzerland - Lecture and Discussion by the Author of "Swiss Made"

2015-11-24 (Tue) 16:30 -

For this seminar, we've invited Mr. R. James Breiding, author of the book Swiss Made, which showcases the power of Switzerland. Mr. Breiding has performed various lectures at academic institutions such as Harvard University and Peking University.

A small country in the Alps, Switzerland is well known for tourism and international finance, but in actuality, it is also a major world power in innovation. While Switzerland is not blessed with an abundance of land or resources, it has raised its global competitiveness not by the size of its economy, but through developing and summoning high quality human resources to give birth to innovation.
In Japan as well, the necessity of innovation and globalization has been discussed in recent years, creating a demand for university reform and human resources aimed at these by institutes of higher education. Let's take a look and see what hints we can gain from Switzerland's example on how we should grasp our current situation, as well as think about the future, in order to further increase the international competitiveness of Osaka University and allow the graduate students and young researchers that will lead the next generation to formulate their own career paths.

We'll hear a lecture on why Switzerland has been able to give birth to high level innovation from the leading edge of Swiss higher education, research strategies, and internationalization that has produced the human resources and research that served as the foundation for this innovation. Following this lecture, we'll hold a discussion between attendees and our guest.

We ask those wishing to attend to register prior to the seminar via the link below. Registration will also be held at the door, but we will give priority to advance registrations.
