UC Osaka Special Lecture "Case Based Critical Thinking"

This first UC [University of California] Osaka Office special class will be case based critical thinking seminar in which participants will, while having fun, improve their ability to think logically through brain storming and creative discussion regarding actual cases. The lecturer will be John Ino, Specially Appointed Professor, Institute for Academic Initiatives, Osaka University; Professor Emeritus, University of California, San Francisco.
Intended for: OU undergraduate and graduate students (The maximum enrollment is 30. First come, first served.)
The seminar will be conducted in English.

Outline of the class

The “Divorce Gene”
1. The recent human genome project has found a "divorce gene." This gene increases a man's chance of divorce from 15% to 34%.
2. Small group discussion topics:
● Who are the stakeholders?
● If I am a man, do I want to know if I have this gene?
● If I am a woman, do I want to know if my boyfriend or fiance has this gene?
● How does this knowledge affect my behavior?
