Saturday Afternoon Physics 2012

The event "The Latest Physics for Senior High School Students: Saturday Afternoon Physics 2012--'Our universe -- from the Infinite to the Microscopic'" will be held again this year! If you're a high school student, this is one event you won't want to miss!

This event will feature lectures about the latest physics by leading researchers, various experiments and exhibitions, and physics clarifying the mysteries of nature. Also, how scientific knowledge and technology are used in modern society will be explained in an easy-to-understand way.

This event will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays over a six-week period. Saturday Afternoon Physics is an event you won't want to miss. We look forward to welcoming many individuals filled with curiosity about the world we live in!

Dates and Time: October 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17, 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Venue: Large Lecture Room, School of Science, Toyonaka Campus, Osaka University

A tour of facilities on the Suita Campus will be conducted on October 29.

Content of lessons

Each lesson is three hours and is divided in the following manner:

  1. Basic lecture -- Attendees will visit various natural worlds.
  2. Break -- Display, exchange and Q&A
  3. On-hands practice -- Physics in high technology, games and quizzes

Attendees will visit the Institute of Laser Engineering, Research Center for Nuclear Physics, and other advanced research facilities in the Graduate School of Engineering on November 3.

Intended for:

180 students in the first through the third years of senior high school.

(Teachers and staff of senior high schools and students' parents are also welcome as observers.)

There is no fee for attending.

Registration in advance is necessary.
