Tekijuku Special Exhibition: Life of OGATA Koreyoshi -- to mark the centennial of his death
2009-6-2 (Tue) - 2009-6-14 (Sun) AllIn this special exhibition, the focus is on Koreyoshi (1843-1909), the second son of OGATA Koan and the one who followed in his father's footsteps. Koreyoshi's childhood name was Heizou, but his nickname was Kosai. Koreyoshi is overshadowed by his great father and not well-known; however, he is an important person when considering medicine during the Meiji Period. He devoted himself to the training of doctors, established a military surgeon system, published medical magazines, and practiced medicine privately. His promotion of medicine in Osaka is especially important.
Marking the centennial of his death, this exhibition retraces the footsteps of Koreyoshi who put Koan's commandments for health professionals into practice.
Tekijuku is one of a few buildings providing us with a precious glimpse of a town house of that era. Please visit Tekijuku and consider the dedicated efforts of our predecessors.
