Gender Equality Promotion Office
Based on the Basic Plan for Promoting Gender Equality (established on April 18, 2012), the Gender Equality Promotion Office promotes gender equality at Osaka University through the following:
1. Increasing awareness of gender equality
In addition to support for female researchers, we focus on educating men, students, and the university community as a whole on gender equality. We also work on educating next-generation female researchers and, to this end, hold symposiums and seminars regarding gender-equality.
2. Promoting active social participation by female faculty, staff, and students
We promote the advancement of women and improving the ratio of female workers by facilitating greater participation of female workers in decision-making and obtaining positions of supervision and by providing information about role models
3. Promoting work-life balance (combining work, study, child birth, child-rearing, and nursing-care)
We provide comprehensive assistance to help female researchers who are having difficulty in securing time for research due to child-rearing, or nursing-care realize a work-life balance through the improved Research Support System which deploys graduate students and undergraduate students for the purpose of assisting such researchers. Additionally, we continue to work on gender equality by making proposals for improving the management of on-campus child-care centers, creating an atmosphere that will support a work-life balance, and by taking measures to enhance work efficiency.
4. Improving working and learning environment for gender equality
We continue to support female faculty and staff members by improving counseling services for career planning and the combination of family life and career, also by providing physical examination support programs for pregnant female faculty and staff, and by making electric breast pumps available to young mothers.
5. Collaboration and exchange with outside organizations and sectors
We continue to work on the enhancement of a partnership with local governments such as Osaka Prefecture, strengthen cooperation with other universities and study groups, and build a network among them.
6. Improving systems for promoting gender equality
We continue to work on promotion of the Diversity Promotion Committee and Gender Equality Promotion Office while encouraging schools to establish working groups for gender equality in each department and support their efforts.
