Gender Equality
From 2007 through the 2009-2010 academic year, Osaka University has implemented the program "Forging a Chain of Support between Female Researchers and the Next Generation" that was selected by MEXT as a "Model Program to Nurture Support for Female Researchers".
Under this program, the Diversity Promotion Committee planned and implemented the "Career Design Laboratory for Women," a similar program for supporting female researchers in September 2007. However, as explained below, beginning from the 2010-2011 academic year, this program was expanded to include males and researchers in the humanities and support for this expanded program will be forthcoming to the extent the university budget allows.
In February 2010, the president, acting as chairperson, set up the Gender Equality Promotion Committee. In April 2010, Headquarters for Diversity Promotion replaced the Diversity Promotion Committee and the Gender Equality Promotion Office replaced the Career Design Laboratory for Women. Through this new structure, the university intends to strengthen its support for gender equality in planning and promotion. Moreover, henceforth, under this new structure, we look forward to further strengthening of such support.
Osaka University abolished the Diverse Personnel Task Force. Thus, from 2012, under the strong leadership of the director in charge of promoting the use of diverse personnel, it will now be possible to make quick decisions. Under this new system, we will also strive to improve related measures.
Furthermore, aiming to contribute to overall enhanced gender equality in society, Osaka University intends to increase support for both faculty, staff, and students in areas such as child-rearing and nursing-care for family members.
