Improvement and Redevelopment of Campuses

 

Osaka University promotes the ongoing comprehensive improvement and development of the educational environment of its campuses.

1. Improvement of Research and Education Facilities

  • Both the Toyonaka Campus and the Suita Campus are improving their general research and education facilities by increasing facilities such as open laboratories and refreshment corners.
    In 2003, additional facilities were completed, including the Department of Physics building, the Nanotechnology-related research building, the business incubation facilities of the Collaborative Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, the Creative Design Studio on Technology of Experiment building, the Research Center for Ultra-High Voltage Electron Microscopy building, the Nanobiotechnology building, and the information integration research building.
  • On the Toyonaka campus, where many of the buildings were built before 1970, the numerous departmental facilities of the Department of Engineering Sciences and the Department of Sciences underwent substantial renovation beginning in 2000 and 2002, respectively.

2. Improvement of Osaka University Hospital

  • In 1993, Osaka University Hospital was transferred to a new building on the Suita Campus and now provides the most advanced medical treatment available today. In addition, services to the patients have been improved through the establishment of a system of volunteers. The hospital has:
    • 1,076 beds
    • 2,554.6 outpatients per day
    • 928.1 inpatients per day (2009)
  • In April 2003, the Medical Center for Translational Research was established, offering organ transplants, gene therapy, and other highly advanced medical treatment procedures, as well as embarking on activities from which medical treatments of the future will be further developed.

3. Enrichment of facilities

  • The Nakanoshima Center was completed in the center of Osaka City in 2003 for the purpose of facilitating exchange with society.
