International Exchange
1. Academic Exchange
- Osaka University has concluded University-to-University Academic Exchange Agreements and School-to-School Academic Exchange Agreements with many overseas universities. As of January 2010, Osaka University had concluded 77 University-to-University Academic Exchange Agreements and 323 School-to-School Academic Exchange Agreements.
- The Osaka University Forum is held overseas every year in order to communicate developments or the results of studies at Osaka University, and of distinguished researchers’ various activities to the international community. The first forum was held in the USA in January 2002.
- Through meetings of the presidents of APRU (Association of Pacific Rim Universities) and AEARU (Association of East Asian Research Universities), Osaka University is promoting exchange with overseas universities in order to contribute to and cooperate on various important problems being faced by the region, as well as on important regional fields of research.
2. Student Exchange
- In the 2010-2011 academic year, Osaka University hosted 1,608 international students from over 80 countries. Furthermore, Osaka University promotes the dispatch of Japanese students to foreign countries, not only through exchange based on University-to-University Academic Exchange Agreements and School-to-School Academic Exchange Agreements, but also by promoting programs offered by overseas universities, and by promoting programs offered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).
- Since 2004, for the purpose of advancing academic exchange and international student exchange, Osaka University became the first National University Corporation to establish overseas offices fully equipped with the necessary functions for playing a supporting role for all of the university’s undergraduate and graduate courses. Osaka University offices are located in the USA (San Francisco), the Netherlands (Groningen), Thailand (Bangkok), and the People's Republic of China (Shanghai).
