Aikido is a martial art
and its concept lies in quick, circular movements and techniques that cause an
opponent's strength to turn against him, causing him to lose his balance. It is a self-defense technique. In our club, members of both sexes practice seriously
and pleasantly together. Most of our members enter as
beginners. Everybody can reach the first level ["dan"] under our kind
instruction. We practice three times a week. Except for training camps during long vacations, you can juggle practice with study and part-time jobs. There are many chances to enjoy interaction with other universities, including joint training. We are sure this will be an enjoyable part of your university life. Come and see our dojo. |

total beginners, persons who quit Kendo but started it again, and those
who have been doing it for several years. If you are interested in Kendo, please come and see our dojo! |

Osaka University's Judo
club is just a little bit different from those at other universities.
Our club practices not only throwing techniques,
but also groundwork techniques used in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Because
groundwork does not require a lot of muscle or strength, one can say
that in this kind of judo "softness overcomes hardness."Individuals who have practiced judo before can learn something new. This new Judo is easy to learn even for beginners because the difference between beginners and experienced persons is not so big. Of course, if you are a beginner, we will teach you how to fall. Let's become strong together! |

Kyudo is the Japanese
ancient art of archery. The series of movements prior to shooting at the
target involve aspects of spiritual training. In Kyudo, the balance between
mind, technique, and body is important. In the modern world, many
people,
regardless of gender, enjoy Kyudo in order to train their mind and body
and become more fully human by learning etiquette coupled with beautiful
movement. We compete in the number of arrows to hit the target while
keeping these things in mind. Correct shooting is not enough, but only
beautiful
shooting is also not enough. Keeping these two in mind, we develop
our spirit. |

Hi. We are the men's table tennis club and we are in the 2nd division of the Kansai Student League. The only national universities in the 2nd or higher divisions are Osaka University and Kobe University so it can be said that we are quite good. In games other than student league games, we have achieved top-class results among national and public universities in the Kansai region -- 2nd place in both the Kinki Area National University Table Tennis Championships and Kansai National and Public University Table Tennis Championships. We are not completely satisfied with these results. We will strive to win the championship in competitions in the Kansai area, aiming at entering the finals in national tournaments. |

Fencing fans seldom
start fencing before enrolling in university. Actually, most members of
national university fencing clubs started fencing after enrolling
in university. So, if you have no experiences, you don't have to be
worried. Also, fencing is not a sport that depends on strength or
running
speed so anyone can do it. Members meet four times a week to practice so
it's not hard to
study and do a part-time job. One of the good points of our fencing
club is that there is no hierarchy and we
enjoy activities in a friendly atmosphere. You can make friends with
students from other
universities through fencing. If this article interests you, come to see our practice. We hope lots of freshmen will come to see us! |

under the motto of "Victory is always ours." Sailing is often confused
with boating, but sailboats move by catching the wind in their sails. It
is a
sport in which you play with nature. Sophisticated tactics based on
knowledge and experience as well as physical ability are required. Most of our members
are
beginners who started sailing after enrolling university, but we're
working hard to win the national
title. Enjoy a carefree university life on weekdays and sailing in the sea

have participated in a glider club or flown in a small plane.

cars, being
interested in motor sports like F1 and World Rally

or wanting to know how cars work. Now they are working hard for the

In Rifle Shooting we use air guns that look like a hunting gun to shoot and target practice at a distance of 10 m. We compete on accuracy. Compared with other sports, rifle shooting is a minor sport. Individuals who started after enrolling in university can get a high ranking because the numbers are small. You can participate in national meets if you work hard. Being good at rifle shooting doesn't have anything to do with athletic ability, physical strength, muscular strength, or gender. Also, individuals wearing eye glasses or contact lenses can enjoy this sport. It's safe and anybody can enjoy it. |

Golf is a sport you can play all your life and it is useful after getting out into the world. We recommend you start playing golf as a student. You need quite a bit of money to start golf -- money for a set of golf clubs and usage fees for driving ranges. So, if you start playing golf as a student, upperclassmen may lend or give you their clubs and there is a student discount for fees. Moreover, you can play golf on a contract course free of charge. If you want to do it anyway, how about enjoying golf as a student at a low price? |

master techniques for jumping and spinning in a couple of months and
begin to dance to music in a year. Everyone starts at the same
starting line. Depending on your practice, you can place in the top in
national student competitions. We are on good terms and enjoy working
together in a friendly
atmosphere. We practice at skate rinks outside the university so we
enjoy growing exchanges with other universities' figure skating
clubs. The male-female ratio in university figure skaters is around
1:1. Everyone enjoys figure skating! |

mountaineering, and camping, but in recent years, we have widened the
range of activities to include things such as skiing and cycling around
Lake Biwa.
Additionally, we're focusing on exploration of caves and abandoned
mines
around the university. It's you who will bring new possibilities to

Our club is a different kind of
club. At practice, we sometimes hear dialogs that are like two stand-up comedians. Our
members consist of persons with a good sense of humor and
those with no sense of humor so it's really fun to listen to them. But
we don't always act
funny. We become serious before and during games -- we think where we are
and act accordingly. Members have different experience. Some members
experienced
softball as junior or senior high school students, some transferred in
from
hardball baseball, and others began this sport after enrolling in
university. Persons who are not familiar with softball are also
welcome. Please come to see us. |

Simply put, scuba diving is a
sport in which you dive into the sea with an air tank on your back to
play with fish. The fantastic scenery, so different from that of your
daily life, will captivate you and make you long to go back. We practice in a
pool for scuba diving and study also from written materials. You can only go
diving in the sea after you've been certified as a diver. The only
thing you really need is the desire to swim in the sea with fish. We

Toshigoro TANIGUCHI
founded a martial art based on Oriental medicine in Nishiyodogawa-ku,
Osaka, some 30 years ago. Thereafter, Toyo Kenpo spread widely and the
Toyo Kenpo club at Osaka University is now 21 years old. This
medicinally related Kenpo covers a wide range of areas, striking,
kicking, joint locking and employing traditional weaponry such as
canes. One of the attraction of this martial art is anybody,
irrespective of age or sex, can enjoy it. You only have to come to
practice once a week. We don't practice during examination periods as
we thinking studies are more important. Your questions and visits are
always welcome. Please free to contact us. |

"Chambara" means sword
fighting. However, the sword fighting in Sports Chambara uses
inflatable soft swords, known as "air-soft swords," so there is no danger,
injuries, or pain. The rules are very simple: you try to hit your
opponent --anywhere!-- while avoiding getting hit. There is no required
proper stance or specified way to use your sword. Moreover, other than a
helmet, there is no special clothing to wear and, as mentioned earlier, even if you get hit,
it doesn't hurt. Additionally, you have a choice of
weapons: for example, short swords, long swords, poles, spears, or
canes. There's no reason why anyone, regardless of age or sex, cannot
enjoy this sport! |

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art employing a variety of techniques of great speed and power. During practice, it's possible for anyone to deal out many "cool" fast kicks. Increasing the fascination of this martial art is that mentally being able to read one's opponent is a skill of equal importance to how one kicks one's partner in Gyeorugi (a type of sparring). Taekwondo has become an official sport in the summer Olympic Games since the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. A Japanese athlete won the bronze medal in Sydney and the future looks promising. |

Even if you inclined to say, "Sports are not my thing..." come out and try! The older members will teach you kindly. The clubs main activities center around the 4 main university events; however, the club also performs at other events both on- and off-campus. Cheerleading is an activity in which there is a position for anyone regardless of physique. Because being a cheerleader for Osaka University is something that no one does before coming to the university, the REBELS welcome you, with or without experience! Generally, speed is an all-important aspect of skiing; however, in this club, judges give points on the logical efficiency of the skiing and determine the winner in that way. In short, the skiier with the most beautiful skiing style wins. Presently, our members consist of 4 first-year students, 3 second-year students, and 2 third-year students, with former members [alumni] also being active. We concentrate on improving our skiing in Hakuba-mura in Nagano in the winter and early spring, especially working on the basics of building our strength and roadwork in winter. In addition, we practice in ways that are pleasant and useful for in-line skiing. |

We work to coordinate
sports-oriented club activities and hold sports events for
members of Physical Leadership. We are also involved in the
management of The Seven
Universities Meets in which
Osaka University and 6 former imperial universities participate. For more information
about our
activities, please view the pamphlet "HEKISEI" distributed at the
entrance ceremony. Most of our members belong to other clubs of
the university. Visit us and you can obtain information about other
clubs.
If you join our club,
you can study and do part-time jobs without being pressed
for time. Martial art clubs tend to have a clear
hierarchy, but ours is not so strict and we have cheerful and
courteous personal relationships. Our club has all sorts of members:
total beginners, persons who quit Kendo but started it again, and those
who have been doing it for several years.
Osaka University's Judo
club is just a little bit different from those at other universities.
Our club practices not only throwing techniques,
but also groundwork techniques used in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Because
groundwork does not require a lot of muscle or strength, one can say
that in this kind of judo "softness overcomes hardness."
We enjoy finding ways to
be strong in a short time. Our records show that we have achieved
moderate
success in competitions. Even beginners have become surprisingly
strong. Other
than club activities, we enjoy eating and traveling together. Even if you
want to do things besides martial arts,
please come
and see us. Individuals interested in serving in a managerial role are
also
welcome.

target involve aspects of spiritual training.
Keeping these two in mind, we develop
our spirit.
Hi. Our club has 7 fourth-year
students, 3 third-year
students (one of them is the manager), and 8 second-year students,
giving us a total of 18 in all. We practice 4 days a week: Tuesday,
Wednesday,
Friday and Saturday; however, it's okay to put class before practice so
it's
possible to juggle study and club activity. Most
members have a part-time job. Regardless of whether you are beginners
or experienced,
all interested persons are encouraged to come and see us. Individuals
willing to serve in a managerial role are also welcome.
In our badminton club,
both beginners and experienced persons enjoy badminton, putting up with
hard training. Regular practice is 3 days a week so it's possible to
both study and do a part-time job. If you join free practice you
can improve your skill. We have intercollegiate games with former
imperial universities and Kobe University. We are involved in
activities with other universities. Our members get along well together
and enjoy our activities.
There are no total
beginners in our club. Some of our members played basketball as junior
high school
students and others participated in interscholastic athletic meets or
national junior high school basketball invitational tournaments.
Although
some managers don't need experience in basketball, all members like
basketball very much and enjoy club activities every day.We
practice four days a week, but are not always busy. Of course classes
should be your priority; many members do part-time jobs. You can make
new friends in our club and create many memories. Your university life
is sure to become fulfilling.
Some of our members are
experienced, but
others started gymnastics after enrolling in university. Everyone
practices
at their own pace so even beginners can start easily. Members are on
good terms and enjoy eating out, going to the sea, and
skateboarding. Former members of the club who graduated the university
frequently come to us to talk. Regular practice is three days a
week; most members do part-time jobs. Some members go on to get teacher
certification. If you join our club, you can enjoy gymnastics and
other activities in a productive university life.
have become
winners in Seven Universities Meets. If you
win in competitions in our club, you can be a regular player even if
you are a
first year student. We also have matches between the members of our
club. Therefore, even members who are not regular players can
participate and accumulate experience. You
can leave your rackets and shoes in the club room, so you don't have to
carry
a racket bag every day. You can shower in a shower room after
practice. Priority
is placed on studies. There is no practice before semester tests so
you have no need to worry.
Students from different
schools join our club and are engaged in differing events, but their
goals
are the same -- namely, being champions of the
Seven Universities Meet.
Our club is a
prestigious club with a history of over 100 years. We are aiming to obtain qualification for
the first division at Jingu Stadium for the
first time since 1985. We try to improve by
learning from each other, through technical guidance, and opinion
exchange. Practice is hard, but we
enjoy games to the fullest. Wouldn't you like to make your university life
full as a member?
Get
involved in soccer! We are in the 2nd division of
the Kansai Student League. We play games against powerful private
university teams. We practice seriously, but usually we take it
fairly easy. Everybody can exchange views candidly
in practice and games and promote the club. Members are also excellent
in studies. One of the students in the third year of the School of
Engineering is going to Graduate School this year. Interested persons
are encouraged to come and see our practices.
There
are 31 of us and we practice with enthusiasm. We are a large easy-going
club; you
don't feel age differences. But we concentrate on games and practices
when we should do so. We practice four times a week. It is possible to
manage practice and
part-time jobs. Actually most members do part-time jobs. Practices are
not so long that they interfere with studies. So you
will not fail to make the grade because of club activities. If you
wonder which club you should join, please come and see us! It's
never too late.
We're aiming to get into
the 2nd division. We need freshmen power! Beginners? No problem.
Most of our members started hockey after enrolling in university. If
you wonder what field hockey is or you want to
see it, please come to the playing fields dressed for playing. When
you hold the stick, you will know the pleasure of field hockey. Kind
and
funny upperclassmen are waiting for you. Feel free to come see us.
The Swimming Club
consists of two divisions: water polo and swimming. You don't have to
participate in all practices. Our club's strength is in our large numbers.
There is a wide range of
athletes from beginners who were not able to swim 25 m to national
athletes. We have had 3 straight victories in Seven Universities
Swimming
Meets and now we have our all-time highest level of athletes. The water
polo
team wasn't able to participate in intercollegiate competitions, but is
getting better. Do pay us a visit soon.
We work hard
under the motto of "Victory is always ours." Sailing is often confused
with boating, but sailboats move by catching the wind in their sails. It
is a
sport in which you play with nature. Sophisticated tactics based on
knowledge and experience as well as physical ability are required. Most of our members
are
beginners who started sailing after enrolling university, but we're
working hard to win the national
title. Enjoy a carefree university life on weekdays and sailing in the sea
on weekends! Enjoy quality time!
Most rowing fans start
practicing after enrolling in university. In that sense, it can be said
that all stand at the same starting line. Therefore, you have a
chance
to win in national-level games. We are
aiming to be among the top four teams in the National University
Meet and to win the Kansai championship. There are a lot of other
nice things I could say, but I don't have space. We hope you come for a
test ride to realize the greatness of boating. Enjoy
the best university life! Please view our home pages for specific
information such as activity
times.
In a word, the
glider club is a club for flying in the sky in a glider. We're working
on
improving our flying technique and obtaining licenses as private glider
pilots. We have participated in Seven Universities Meets and National
Glider Meets. It is not until enrolling in university that most members
have participated in a glider club or flown in a small plane.
That's why this club is perfect for people wishing to do something unique. If you
are interested, visit the link below.
When we invite people to
join the
automobile club, many will say that they don't have a license. But it's all right if you
don't have a license. All of our
members got their license during the summer or autumn of their
first year. Their motives are different for joining this club -- being fond of
cars, being
interested in motor sports like F1 and World Rally
Championship,
or wanting to know how cars work. Now they are working hard for the
club.
Skiing is a wonderful way to get away from everyday life and to do it where it's beautiful on a snowy slope. Going skiing with
friends far from everyday life can be done only during your university days. We also enjoy exchange with other universities.
Friendships from the ski slopes are sure to continue after
university. Concerning competition ski, most of members are beginners.
So you don't have to worry. Our club is involved in 3 divisions:
Alpine,
cross-country, and jumping. Choose the event you're interested in. Please come to see us.
We enjoy outdoor
activities on the weekends and during long vacation in accordance with
members' requests. For example, mountaineering in the first semester
and
cycling, exploring uninhabited islands, and cross-country
skiing in the second semester. You can experience activities
that you can do only as a university student. In addition to training
camp, we train during lunch time on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays in
order to develop basic physical strength. It's not so hard that
individuals without experience in sports-oriented clubs have to
worry.
The three groups, Sports
Leadership, Brass Band, and Cheerleader work together. Our major
activities are cheering for sports groups of Osaka University
and performing at big events such as university festivals and entrance
ceremonies. All of us were beginners when we joined this
club. We enjoy having contact with many people. We make
friends with persons in other clubs and cheerleader clubs of other
universities. Most of all, we can feel we're growing. What you get from
the cheerleader club will be your treasure. Have a fulfilling university life with us!
We enjoy fishing. If you
are a total beginner, it's all right -- you will
be instructed politely. We go fishing and camping throughout
Japan several times a year
and during the summer holidays. Some members go fishing with other
members
to nearby places on weekends. The fishing club has three groups: sea
fishing, mountain stream
fishing, and lure fishing. Some members belong to more than one group.
Cooking and eating the fish you catch in some remote area is the
greatest! Beginner and semi-pros enjoy the outdoor activity of fishing.
Our members work happily
together. We merged with the archery club of the former Osaka
University of Foreign Studies in 2008, increasing the number of schools
that member belong to. The practice range in the Suita Campus is one of
the best in the Kansai
region, enabling many members to practice at the same time. In order to
manage studies and club activities, we conduct drills once a
week
and each member achieves practice quota. Members practice at
their own pace. Of course we pay attention to safety and
upperclassmen give guidance.
Most of our members
join American football as beginners. Year by year, more and more of our
members are chosen as the best athlete or participate in all-star
games. Your image of an American football player may be that of a
muscular man, but
there are also many slim but muscular men as well.
We achieved a good performance
in league competitions, but we have not reached the goal of advancing to
the first
division. We're working hard everyday to achieve our goal. Our good
point is we do our best and we are passionate. Our friendly
atmosphere is one
of our attractions. Ice hockey is rather new in Japan. Once you view
a game, you will be fascinated with its speed.
Our club has a 30-year
history, but all of our members started skating after enrolling in
university. Members who were not able to stand on ice at the beginning
master techniques for jumping and spinning in a couple of months and
begin to dance to music in a year.
When you hear Exploration
club, you may wonder what we do.The answer is "It's up to
you." The exploration club's activities
are outdoor-mind. Basically, activity plans are determined by
proposals and request from members. We used to mainly enjoy canoeing,
mountaineering, and camping, but in recent years, we have widened the
range of activities to include things such as skiing and cycling around
Lake Biwa.
Additionally, we're focusing on exploration of caves and abandoned
mines
around the university. It's you who will bring new possibilities to
the club this year.
We
look forward to seeing many new freshmen.
In Women's Basketball,
we all work together -- all the members, the coach, and the manager. We
work hard together and have a good time, able to express our opinions
with no hierarchical relations between members. We practice hard,
aiming always to improve. Because we have time off after the summer
league matches and 3 weeks off in winter, there is enough time to do
something besides basketball. Many of our members work and study
together. We're looking for a manager and new players!
According to a Wikipedia, "orienteering is a cross-country footrace in which each
participant uses a map and compass to navigate between checkpoints
along an unfamiliar course."
The main activities of
our club are taking part in motorcycle races and touring. We
participate in 50 cc motorcycle races. Going to the race circuit or not
is up to you -- only members who want to go, go. Also, we go touring once or
twice a month. A license is not necessary for either activity. In the
summer we go on longer tours, to places that we normally can't visit. We
hope you'll take a look at our website and join us if this club interests you!
Toshigoro TANIGUCHI
founded a martial art based on Oriental medicine in Nishiyodogawa-ku,
Osaka, some 30 years ago. Thereafter, Toyo Kenpo spread widely and the
Toyo Kenpo club at Osaka University is now 21 years old. This
medicinally related Kenpo covers a wide range of areas, striking,
kicking, joint locking and employing traditional weaponry such as
canes. One of the attraction of this martial art is anybody,
irrespective of age or sex, can enjoy it. You only have to come to
practice once a week. We don't practice during examination periods as
we thinking studies are more important. Your questions and visits are
always welcome. Please free to contact us.
Originally the Cheerleading REBELS were established at the former Osaka University of Foreign Studies in 1992. With its integration with Osaka University in 2009, the REBELS were re-established by the Sports Leadership club. We look forward to seeing you at the gymnasium!
