OU Environmental Activity Group wins Grand Prize in Ecocon 2013 Contest

On Thursday, December 26 and Friday, December 27 last year, the 11th All-Japan Environmental Activity Contest for University Students (Ecocon) was held at the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center in Tokyo. Osaka University's Environmental Activity Group, GECS (G Eco ChallengerS) won the Grand Prize, the Minister of the Environment Award.

This contest has been conducted since 2003 for the purpose of strengthening environmental preservation activities by univesity students, increase their influence on society, and assist in the achievement of a sustainable society.

In this contest, the presentations of various university student groups regarding their group's environmental protection activities were assessed in a public screening by general citizens and students and outstanding achievements were recognized.

38 student groups entered the contest this year and following a two-step strict screening process, GECS won the Grand Prize for activities such as cleaning up the river in a local community. The group also received the most votes from the audience for their presentation thereby enabling them to take home the Audience Prize as well!

Our sincere congratulations to GECS!
